The Baloneymeter's purpose is to allow you to search a large number of products, and easily identify which ones have incentivized reviews.
Our favorite part about online shoping is being able to make informed purchasing decisions easily, for us Amazon reviews are a big part of that. We feel that reivews that are given in exchange for discounted or free products are bogus, especially when you consider that people often need to apply ahead of time for the privilege. If you dont have a history of leaving glowing reviews, the vendor is unlikely to "approve" you for their promotion.
For each product in a search result, we grab a random sample of reviews. We then analyze the reviews for indications as to their quality and legitimacy. A number of methods are used to grade each review. Finally we use these gradings to estimate what the average amazon review score would be without the incentivzed reviews, we call this the "adjusted review score". We also calculate another score to give an indication of how prevalent the bogus reviews are, we call this the "Baloneymeter score"
